BUILDING BRIGHTER FUTURES
IN CAMOTÁN

We are proud to announce a new collaboration with the Embassy Of Japan in Guatemala, joining forces to improve the Tizamarté school’s infrastructure in Camotán. This agreement will provide better learning conditions for more than 200 children and teachers, ensuring access to new classrooms and safe, dignified sanitary facilities that foster a motivating and inspiring educational environment.
During the signing ceremony, the Embassy reaffirmed its commitment to supporting Guatemala’s development through education. As the ambassador Kuwana Ryosuke stated:
“Better school facilities mean better education. A century ago, Japan was a developing country, but by prioritizing education, we achieved great progress. Our experience has shown that investing in education and human resource development is key to national advancement. For 50 years, we have supported Guatemala’s development, but we cannot do it alone. To extend our reach, we need strong partners like Seeds for Progress. Together with the organization and local authorities, we are committed to implementing this project for the children of Camotán, ensuring a brighter future for them.”
This collaboration also strengthens the cooperative relationship between our organization and Japan’s Embassy, as we work together to create lasting impact in the region. As our Executive Director Mynor Maldonado expressed: “We know that improving school infrastructure has a direct impact on reducing absenteeism. When students and teachers have safe, dignified spaces, they are more motivated to attend school regularly. By combining efforts and resources, we move closer to fulfilling our mission of transforming education in rural Guatemala. We are deeply grateful for your trust in our work and for planting seeds of progress alongside us.”
This project is a testament to what can be achieved when organizations, governments, and communities unite for a shared purpose. We look forward to seeing the impact these improvements will have on the students of Camotán and will continue working to ensure that every child has access to quality education in a safe and inspiring environment.
